CAM’S STORY - 35 YRS

A LITTLE ABOUT YOU?

I'm 35 year old male. I am a Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer in the aviation industry but have recently started into marine repair. Less stress and way more consistency.

SINCE YOU FIRST STARTED AT BOSS, HOW DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE PROGRESSED?

“My progression has been slow. Not because of the training but because I spent a huge amount of time away over the last few years as a contractor. It makes for a very difficult schedule for training. Since aviation has been crippled due to Covid I have had way more spare time than I was accustomed to. I spent it doing Zoom classes and building motorcycles in the garage. My progress has dramatically increased. And now that I've left aviation it's full on back to 5 days a week. I couldn't be happier. “

HOW HAS THIS IMPACTED YOUR LIFE?

“It has had a very very dramatic impact on my life. I would be lying if I didn't say last year was particularly hard. I tend to think I am fairly mentally astute and strong willed but last year was a good test of my mental fortitude.

Looking for work, job keeper, trying to pay bills and sometimes shear boredom takes its toll. It was very hard. If it hadn't been for the regimented Zoom classes and the Boss team I'm not sure I would have been able to do it. I enjoyed the early morning classes and chose to keep those every day for some form of normality through all the other BS going on. Something to look forward to everyday. Mia, Coop & Darc are such good trainers I'd be lost without them.

I'm down 11kg in 10 months and am the fittest I have ever been, ever! And I actually enjoy pushups. Who'd of thought… Being back to the gym now full-time is great. I find I push myself way harder than I used to and the weights continue to go up. “

WHAT MOTIVATES YOU TO KEEP TURNING UP AND TRAINING?

“The fact that I continually improve. Now that I've actually been able to see a really positive result it makes it very easy to keep going. Plus I need the trainers for the push. I wouldn't push myself that hard at home. I've actually learned to enjoy it. Except the assault bike. I still think it's the spawn of Satan.

Plus I get a little bit of pleasure out of giving Mia a hard time. It's a reciprocal relationship. 😁”

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE SOMEONE WHO IS LOOKING TO START?

“There are a lot of faceless gyms with little to no atmosphere. Boss is not one of them. It has a more homely feel. It's comfortable. You always feel like you’re part of the family and Mia has always tried to ensure everyone is pushing their boundaries.

Take it in strides. Start slow and ease into it. It can be very overwhelming. Let your body adapt and get accustomed to the new regiment and then start to push a little harder.”
